Kathy Thorpe, CPDT-KA
Owner & Head Dog Trainer
Kathy has been training dogs formally since 2011, and is a professional member of APDT, The Association Of Professional Dog Trainers.
After a fifteen-year career in corporate marketing, she decided to pursue her passion and began her journey to become a dog trainer. Kathy purchased a dog training franchise in 2011, and continued on to build one of the most successful dog training businesses in Denver. At the end of the franchise agreement, she decided to go solo with a new dog training curriculum, and the result is the Paw School of today.
At home, Kathy currently has two dogs, Wesley and Newman. Pictured here are Newman and her previous boxer-mix, Charlie… who helped get this journey started.
Originally from Cincinnati, OH, Colleen started local dog training with the Denver Paw School team in August of 2015. Prior to that, Colleen spent two and a half years designing and creating instructional media for an equine training company.
Inspired by her work helping people build relationships with their animals, Colleen started attending science-based training seminars and courses and pursuing a career in dog training. She intends to sit for her CPTD-KA exam in Fall 2016. Outside of work, Colleen spends her time exploring the Colorado landscape with her rescue-dog, Tobin.
Jess’s love of dogs started early in life, helping her father whelp Vizsla litters. She has a degree in Biology, with a focus in Animal Behavior, and spent time working in a zoo before pursuing her true passion, working with dogs.
Jess spent two years with Fetchers in their daycare and boarding program, before joining the Paw School staff in 2012 to begin her training career. She intends to sit for her CPTD-KA exam in Fall 2016. Jess and her dog Sammy compete in Agility and enjoy hiking and camping in Colorado.
Teresa is a CPDT-KA (2007) and NADOI (1998-2005) professionally certified dog trainer and instructor. Teresa has competed in AKC competitions and titled dogs in Obedience, Hunting, Breed, Tracking and Rally events. Her passions for the human-animal bond led to her accomplishing her master degree in Anthrozoology focusing on the psychology of the human-animal bond and advanced animal behavior modification techniques. She has trained service dogs, emotional support animals, hearing and seizure alert dogs and is currently a trainer for Pets for Vets in Denver. In addition to training dogs, she has trained llamas for packing into the backcountry, conducted wildlife research, and trained captive wildlife animals for educational programs.
Teresa enjoys spending time outdoors hiking, biking, dog scootering, skijoring, snowshoeing and kayaking with her husband and Alaskan Malamute, Akira.
